Sometime in September of 2021, we decided to go ahead with the LEF Scholarship for Girls with the intention of reducing the dropout rate of little girls in the wake of Covid-19. We found a partner in NSDL eGov (now rebranded as Protean). Over the next few weeks, the two teams worked closely together to put together a scholarship plan that prioritised children basis regions in India where the dropout rate was observed to be the highest.

A shortlist of 200 girls in classes VIII, IX and X was drawn up by early 2022. Applicants were sorted by via combination of financial background and marks scored in their last examination.

We reached out to a small group of direct contacts – the response was more than heartening. People contributed to the scholarship corpus whole-heartedly. In the initial phase, we were able to gather enough funds to support the educational journey of 90 little ones. This included the contribution of our supporters as well as the founders of LEF.

Our immense gratitude to every single individual who stepped up to the more than worthy effort.

The scholarship corpus is still open to contribution, as we have many children who still need our help. With every contribution of INR 5000, we can help one more girl who wishes to study further, but is being held back by financial constraints.
